CRXU container tracking (Cronos)

Containers with the prefix CRXU belong to Cronos, a leasing company that rents containers to shipping lines and other operators. The prefix does not tell you which line is carrying the box, so track it with the line named on your bill of lading or booking.

Triplicate does not track containers itself: it checks the number and sends you to the shipping line's own tracking page, which shows the live status. Prefixes were checked against the BIC owner-code registry in September 2026; lines also use leased containers.

Guides on this topic

Why a leased container is tracked with the shipping line

Cronos owns the containers but does not run the voyages. Each container is leased to a shipping line or another operator, and that operator books the cargo, issues the bill of lading and publishes the tracking. Use the shipping line on your B/L, booking confirmation or arrival notice, or ask your forwarder which line it booked.

How a container number works

A container number (ISO 6346) has 11 characters: a 3-letter owner code, an equipment category letter (U for freight containers), a 6-digit serial number and a check digit. The check digit catches most typing mistakes, so check it before you book or send documents.

If tracking shows nothing

Status usually appears once the empty container is picked up or the full one enters the terminal. If nothing shows, check the number for typos, make sure you are on the right line's site (leased containers can be on any line), try the bill of lading number, or ask your forwarder.

Common questions

Who owns CRXU containers?

The owner code CRXU is registered to Cronos, a container leasing company. The container itself may be operated by any shipping line or operator that leases it.

How do I track a CRXU container?

Find the shipping line or freight forwarder on your bill of lading, booking confirmation or arrival notice and use its tracking page with the B/L, booking or container number. The checker above confirms the number's check digit and links to the main lines' official tracking pages.

What does the U in MSCU mean?

The fourth letter is the equipment category: U means a freight container, J detachable freight container equipment and Z a trailer or chassis. The first three letters are the owner code, here MSC.
