Landed Cost & Import Duty Calculator
Enter the goods value, freight, insurance, duty rate and any tax to see the estimated total cost of getting a shipment landed and cleared.
This is an estimate for planning and quoting only, not a customs declaration. The duty base (CIF vs. FOB vs. transaction value) and whether VAT/GST applies on CIF+duty or CIF alone both vary by country — confirm the exact method and rate on the destination country's own tariff site (see the HS code tool below) before you commit to a price. What "landed cost" means
Landed cost is the total cost to get goods from the seller to the buyer's door, cleared through customs: the goods value, international freight and insurance (together the CIF value), plus import duty, VAT/GST or other import tax, and handling fees such as a customs broker or port charges. Knowing it before you quote a price or agree a purchase avoids an unpleasant surprise at customs.
How duty and VAT/GST are usually calculated
Most countries charge import duty as a percentage of the CIF value (goods value plus freight and insurance), though a few use the FOB value or a separately assessed customs value instead. VAT or GST is then commonly charged on top of CIF plus duty, though some countries charge it on CIF alone. Always check the destination country's customs valuation method, since a mismatch here is one of the most common landed-cost estimating mistakes.
How to find your duty rate
Your duty rate depends on the product's HS code and the destination country's tariff schedule, and can also change with a free trade agreement, anti-dumping duty or the temporary tariff measures many countries have introduced recently. Use the HS code tool below to find your product's classification, then check the official tariff schedule for the destination country to confirm the current rate.
Common questions
Is landed cost the same as CIF value?
No. CIF value is only the goods value plus freight and insurance. Landed cost adds import duty, VAT/GST and any other clearance or handling fees on top of the CIF value.
Does every country charge VAT or GST on imports?
No. Many countries do, often at the same rate as domestic sales tax, but some have exemptions for certain goods, low-value shipments or trade agreement partners — check the destination country's customs and tax authority.
Why calculate landed cost before quoting a price?
If a buyer expects the final delivered price and you only quoted the goods value, unexpected duty and tax can turn a profitable order into a loss, or make your price uncompetitive once the buyer adds their own import costs. Estimating landed cost early avoids both problems.
