How to write an amount in words on an invoice
Write the currency, the whole units and then the cents, and close the phrase so nothing can be added: SAY US DOLLARS TWELVE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED FORTY-FIVE AND CENTS SIXTY-SEVEN ONLY. Banks compare the words with the figures, so check them together before you send the documents.
Lakh and crore
In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal, large numbers are grouped as thousand, lakh (100,000) and crore (10,000,000). 12,500,000 is written 1,25,00,000 and read as one crore twenty-five lakh. Choose the Indian style if your buyer or bank expects it.

Why do invoices say "SAY … ONLY"?
"SAY" introduces the amount and "ONLY" closes it, so no one can add words or figures afterwards. The habit comes from cheques and bank documents, where it helps prevent alteration.
How do I write the cents?
Add them after "AND": US DOLLARS ONE HUNDRED AND CENTS FIFTY ONLY. Some companies write the cents as a fraction instead, such as ONE HUNDRED AND 50/100. Either is accepted; be consistent across your documents.
Must the words match the figures exactly?
Yes. Banks examine documents against each other, and a mismatch between the words and the figures on an invoice or a draft under a letter of credit can be treated as a discrepancy and delay payment.
