Labels are in English, the usual language for export cartons. The last carton of each product gets the remaining quantity and its own weight. Check that the marks match your packing list and any wording your buyer or letter of credit requires. Made in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
What goes on an export carton label
A carton label tells everyone who handles the box where it goes and what is inside: the shipper and consignee, the PO or invoice number, the destination, the description and quantity, net and gross weight, the carton size, the carton number (for example 3 of 20) and the country of origin. Buyers and warehouses often add their own requirements, such as a barcode or their item number.
Carton numbers and the packing list
Number the cartons in one sequence for the whole shipment and use the same numbers on the packing list, so that anyone can check a carton against the documents. When a product does not fill its last carton, that carton carries fewer pieces and a lower weight; this generator works that out for you.
Printing and sticking the labels
Use self-adhesive A4 label sheets (4 or 2 labels per sheet) or a thermal label printer with 4 × 6 in (100 × 150 mm) labels. Print at 100% scale, not "fit to page". Put labels on at least one side panel, or on two opposite sides if the buyer asks, away from seams and straps, and cover them with clear tape if the cartons may get wet.
Common questions
How do I write carton numbers on a packing list?
Give each carton a number in one running sequence (1 to N) and show the range for each product on the packing list, for example C/No. 1-10 for the first product and 11-20 for the next. The labels then show "3 / 20" and so on, and anyone can match a carton to the packing list line.
What size are shipping labels?
The common sizes are 4 × 6 in (about 102 × 152 mm) and 100 × 150 mm for thermal label printers, and A4 sheets with 2 or 4 labels for office printers. Check whether your buyer or warehouse requires a specific size or layout.
Which barcode does the label use?
Code 128, a common barcode for shipping labels, containing the PO or invoice number and the carton number (for example PO123-003). If your buyer requires a specific barcode, such as a GS1 SSCC label, use the format they give you.
