What TAREKS is
TAREKS (Dış Ticarette Risk Esaslı Kontrol Sistemi) is the Ministry of Trade's electronic system for product safety, technical regulation and standard controls in foreign trade. It was launched at the end of 2010 to make trade controls more efficient and to shorten waiting times at customs.
Instead of inspecting every shipment, TAREKS selects shipments by predetermined risk criteria. A shipment may be released without inspection or sent to a document check, a physical inspection, sampling or laboratory testing.
TAREKS checklist for importers
- Products checked against the Ministry's import inspection communiqués
- Company registered in TAREKS by an authorized official
- e-signature or e-Devlet password ready
- One-time TAREKS undertaking signed
- Shipment entered in TAREKS with the documents the communiqué asks for
- Time allowed for a document check, inspection or testing
Registering and entering a shipment
Company registration under the TAREKS communiqué can only be done by persons authorized to represent and bind the company. The official applies through the Ministry's authorization application and signs with e-signature: companies enter their tax number, individual importers their national ID number and date of birth, and the official's details are matched with the MERSIS trade registry. Before working in TAREKS, a newly registered official signs a one-time TAREKS undertaking with e-signature; the Ministry also accepts an e-Devlet password for login.
For each shipment of a covered product, the importer enters the shipment in TAREKS and uploads the documents its communiqué asks for, such as the invoice, conformity documents and product photos. The Ministry's guide for the 2025/28 communiqué applies from 25 August 2025.
