Why keep a shipment list

When several orders are on the way at the same time, dates slip: a vessel is delayed, the last free day passes, or an L/C expires before the documents reach the bank. One list with the stage, dates and container or B/L number of every shipment shows what needs action today.

The dates that cost money

Two dates deserve a reminder: the last free day at the destination, after which demurrage and detention are charged per container per day, and the L/C expiry date, by which the documents must be presented to the bank. Add them to each shipment and the list warns you a few days before.

Tracking a container

Enter the container or B/L number and click Track: the container tracking page checks the number and opens the shipping line's own tracking page. Mark each stage as it happens – booked, departed, arrived, cleared, delivered – so the list shows where every order stands.
