Indonesia SNI certification for exporters: SPPT-SNI, LSPro and NPB
Indonesia's national standard, SNI, is voluntary unless a regulation makes it mandatory for a product, and for those products the goods must be certified and carry the SNI mark before import. Certification is done by accredited Indonesian certification bodies (LSPro) with testing in Indonesian laboratories, and imports also need a registration number (NPB). Telecom equipment follows a separate SDPPI type approval.

The SNI certification steps
- Check whether your product is on BSN's list of mandatory SNI.
- Find an accredited LSPro whose scope covers your product.
- Register with the LSPro and submit documents, such as business legality (NIB) and proof of trademark registration.
- The LSPro evaluates the product, through testing in an accredited Indonesian laboratory and, depending on the scheme, a factory inspection; any non-conformities must be fixed within a set time.
- The LSPro issues the certificate of conformity and reports it to BSN.
- BSN issues the SPPT-SNI, the approval to use the SNI mark.
Importing certified goods
For each import of goods under mandatory SNI, the importer needs an SPB, which includes the NPB, the goods registration number. The importer or manufacturer holding the NPB places it under the SNI mark on the product or packaging. Because the certification process involves Indonesian laboratories and certification bodies, exporters usually work with their Indonesian importer, who holds the business registration (NIB) and the import documents.
Telecom equipment and scams
Telecom and radio products are approved separately by the Directorate General of Posts and Informatics Resources (SDPPI) through type approval, with testing in an Indonesian laboratory; the applicant must be a local company, and products are marked with the SDPPI label and a QR code. The Netherlands embassy has warned of companies approaching foreign exporters while posing as Indonesian certification entities, so check that any certification body is accredited for your product.
Step by step
- Ask your Indonesian importer whether the product is on the mandatory SNI list.
- Choose an accredited LSPro with the right scope.
- Prepare samples, technical documents and, for some schemes, your factory for inspection.
- Fix any non-conformities found during the evaluation within the deadline.
- Obtain the SPPT-SNI and print the SNI mark with the NPB below it.
- Make sure your importer obtains the SPB with the NPB before each shipment.
